In London Challenge Poverty Week 2022 we were happy to see MPs, Councillors, and London Assembly members from across the political spectrum come together to call for a #PovertyFreeLondon.
Mayor Engagement
In 2022, it was encouraging to see the Mayor of London Engage with London Challenge Poverty Week. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan commenced his engagement with the week on Twitter by stating his commitment to calls to action to tackle poverty in the capital.
Mayor of London Question Time
Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor of London, Communities and Social Justice, delivered a speech at London Child Poverty Summit, whilst Sadiq Khan responded to a question from Marina Ahmad, Lambeth & Southwark Assembly Member, regarding his action on London Challenge Poverty Week.

Webinar
The London Child Poverty Alliance supported by London Councils held a webinar titled “Helping people through the cost-of-living crisis: practical solutions for councils” to help councillors and local authority officials tackle the cost-of-living crisis in their communities.
London Child Poverty Summit
At the London Child Poverty Summit, Munira Wilson MP (Twickenham ), Emma Best (London Assembly Member), Zoe Garbett (Dalston Ward Councillor) and Anne Clarke (London Assembly member) featured on a closing panel discussing the causes and solutions to child poverty.
APPG for London
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for London held a meeting on supporting Londoners facing cost of living pressures. Read OnLondon’s article for more of what happened here.
London Assembly Economy Committe
London Assembly Economy Committee held a meeting chaired by Cllr Hina Bokhari focusing on food insecurity in the capital. Witnesses included those with lived experience, Incredible Edible, Trussell Trust, Food Foundation, Independent Food Aid Network and Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor of London, Communities and Social Justice.
